CT Tweets About
Sometimes a review requires long thoughtful introspection and careful dissection. Sometimes, brevity is the better course.
Welcome to CT Tweets About
Here is where I will lay out Twitter threads of my own personal commentary running on any number of things; movies, TV episodes, songs/albums, political shows/events, etc. And when I say running, I mean these will be thoughts put forth as I am experiencing the event.
Oh, and as this is from Twitter, you gotta work you're way up. :)
Somos Las Bolas
My shortest Tweets About ever, but it is for a short film. A few thoughts on Andrew Edmark's indepdent film, Somos Las Bolas. Best Low Budget film in the Student Films Across America tour. Best Soundtrack in the IMP Association and official selection of the Max Allan Collins Film Expo in ‘07.
A Double Feature: Adam & Steve and Jeffrey
Tonight on CT Tweets About, an impromptu gay romcom double feature:
Adam and Steve met in the 80's, had the worst date in the history of the world, fell in love almost 20 years later, and then recognized each other.
This movie stars the exquisite Malcolm Gets (Caroline in the City) and the amazing writer/director/star Craig Chester. Parker Posey (who starts the movie in a fat suit) and Chris Kattan round out the cast as the bizarre (and in some ways caustic) best friends of the pair. It also includes cameos by Sally Kirkland, Melinda Dillon, Julie Hagerty and Kristen Schaal.
The second film on tonights roster tells the story of Jeffrey, a gay man in NYC during the mid-90s, when safe sex became (by necessity) the mantra of the gay movement. Disillusioned with the complications involved in a sexually free life style, he decides to give up sex entirely, right before meeting Steve, a sexy and persistent would be life partner.
This film has a dizzying cast, lead by Steven Weber (of Wings) and Michael T. Weiss (The Pretender). It also costars the incomprehensibly wonderful Patrick Stewart (yes, former USS Enterprise captain and X-Man) and Bryan Batt (Mad Men) continues the roll he began off-Broadway. Plus, stellar cameos from Christine Baranski, Nathan Lane, Kathy Najimy, Sigourney Weaver, Camryn Mannheim, Olympia Dukakis, Kevin Nealon, Ethan Phillips and Victor Garber.
Penelope
A modern day fairytale, told by an incredibly ensemble cast, and with amazing visual style.
Deep Impact
"What Deep Impact really teaches us; if you don't send Bruce Willis to destroy it, you're just going to piss it off." - CleverTitania
Eagle Eye
Impressive techno-action thriller. I won't say it's full of twists, but it's got some damned hard turns in it.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
I really enjoyed the original Hellboy, but the second one greatly impressed me. Much more entertaining than my musings on it, I'm sure. ;)
Live Free or Die Hard
Ultimately, this ended up being my favorite of the Die Hard series. And it's not just because of Justin Long. :)
Tropic Thunder
One of the most over the top satirical movies of the last 10 years, with a cast that makes you weep for their comedic brilliance. Does that sound biased?
I Could Never Be Your Woman
The unfairly maligned romantic comedy, starring Paul Ruud and Michell Pfeiffer. Loaded with a lot of chemistry and an amazing supporting cast.
A Fish Called Wanda
Ruminations whilst watching the special edition DVD of A Fish Called Wanda, and listening to the commentary by John Cleese.
